Lady Wray Headlines Spokane's Boomjam
Lady Wray headlined the third annual Boomjam Music Festival in Spokane on September 12, nearly a year after releasing Cover Girl, her third album for Big Crown Records.
The performance showcased her combination of soul, gospel and modern R&B, drawing from the album's diverse sonic palette that ranges from intimate harmonies to funk grooves. The set included "Calm," a piano-driven ballad she wrote after her father-in-law's passing, building from reflection to a clapping choir backbeat.
The stripped-down title track looks back at her childhood journey toward becoming a singer, addressing both her younger self and reinforcing that same confidence today. Working again with producer Leon Michels, Wray has spent the year touring on material that fuses church-rooted vocalism with a contemporary sensibility—soul music built on lived experience rather than nostalgia.
