Joshua Redman on Still Reaching

WBGO published an interview with Joshua Redman on September 10, one that captures the saxophonist at a moment of sustained intensity. His current quartet—Paul Cornish, Philip Norris, and Nazir Ebo—played DC Jazz Fest over Labor Day weekend, performing material from last year's Words Fall Short.

In the conversation, Redman discusses recording a double album, playing two shows a night during Winter JazzFest, and his late hero Sonny Rollins, along with the star-studded quartet he's reassembled over the years—Mehldau, McBride, Blade. At this point in his career, he could play fewer shows or record less, but he doesn't. He's touring the U.S., South America, Asia, and Canada this year alone.

The interview aired September 10, 2026, on WBGO.
