Kay Slice Returns with Take U Highlife

Kay Slice

Kay Slice

Rotterdam-based Ghanaian artist Kay Slice releases I Take U Highlife on September 25 through Agogo Records, a project that moves between countries, generations, musical traditions and identities.

Following his 2022 debut From Back To Back, Slice co-produced the album with Anton de Bruin (Dragonfruit, Peter Somuah). The work brings the rhythmic foundations of highlife into conversation with hip-hop, Afrobeat, jazz, soul and contemporary production, featuring collaborations with highlife veterans Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Pat Thomas, alongside Jembaa Groove, MiDi KwaKwa and RnB Princess.

Slice returned to Ghana to immerse himself in the culture, studying rhythms, call-and-response traditions, and learning Ghanaian xylophone. The result avoids nostalgic reproduction—it's grounded tradition in motion.

I Take U Highlife arrives September 25 via Agogo Records. Slice performs at Paradiso Amsterdam on November 7.
