Bill Evans Biopic Arrives in UK Cinemas

Everybody Digs Bill Evans is released nationwide on September 11th, bringing an intimate look at a pivotal period in the jazz pianist's life, focusing on 1961—just after the Village Vanguard sessions that produced two landmark albums.

Director Grant Gee won the Silver Bear award for Best Director at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, one of cinema's most prestigious prizes. The film borrows its title from Evans's acclaimed album, but Gee is not interested in telling a success story. Instead, he focuses on one of the most difficult periods of Evans's life—the death of bassist Scott LaFaro and the months that followed.

With Anders Danielsen Lie as Evans and Bill Pullman as his father, this isn't a standard music biopic: rather than racing through childhood and career highlights, it concentrates on a few months of personal upheaval. The film is in UK cinemas from September 11.
