Julian Lage Joins Dylan's Summer Tour
Julian Lage has swapped back in as the guitarist in Bob Dylan's band, marking one of the summer's more unexpected collaborations. The guitarist appeared without warning at Dylan's Santa Barbara Bowl show on June 17, stepping in for Doug Lancio, who had been touring with Dylan since 2021, and has been rotating in and out of the lineup ever since.
It's a curious pairing—Lage is a one-time child prodigy, deeply established in the jazz community, who teaches at the New School's School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. He's been commuting between the US and Europe to fulfill previously scheduled shows, and appeared with Dylan when the tour closed at Atlanta and Nashville in early August.
Lage's next scheduled concert under his own name is at Jacob Collier's Hideaway event in Tuscany, Italy, running August 8-12.
