Khruangbin Revisit Their Debut in Full

A decade can reshape perspective as much as it sharpens skill. Khruangbin marked the tenth anniversary of The Universe Smiles Upon You by releasing a full re-recording of their debut—same barn studio in Central Texas, same instruments, entirely different band.

Where the 2016 original introduced their Thai-funk curiosities to the world, The Universe Smiles Upon You ii reflects a trio who've since headlined festivals and collaborated across continents. Bassist Laura Lee Ochoa described the approach to Rolling Stone: the impulse wasn't reverence but reimagining—"the kids 10 years later would think about the songs as they are today."

The new sequence opens with previously Japan-exclusive track "Bin Bin" instead of "Mr. White," a signal that nostalgia wasn't the priority. Improvisation and high-shine hooks now thread through material once defined by hypnotic restraint.
