Andrea Motis Brings Amy Winehouse Tribute Home
After its success at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, Andrea Motis brought her To Amy project back to the Palau de la Música Catalana on June 28. The project emerged from a deeply personal connection: Motis found solace in Winehouse's music during a difficult period between ages 15 and 18, describing the experience as therapeutic—"I felt truly empowered" and saw herself reflected in the music's emotional complexity.
The performance reunited Motis with the Barcelona Gospel Messengers, led by Ramon Escalé, in one of Barcelona's most storied concert halls. The show follows the February release of Intimate, an acoustic album recorded across Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, and Montoliu de Segarra, though To Amy represents a different artistic statement—one rooted in gratitude and recognition of influence rather than imitation.
